Frequently asked questions

Does it work on phones and tablets too?
Yes. Silver Shield works at the network level, which means every device connected to your WiFi is automatically protected — phones, tablets, laptops, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and anything else. No app installation required.
Will my internet speed be affected?
No. Silver Shield uses DNS filtering, which adds less than 1 millisecond to each DNS lookup. You won't notice any difference in your internet speed.
Can my kids bypass it?
Silver Shield works at the router level, which makes it significantly harder to bypass than app-based solutions. Our iptables rules also block DNS-over-HTTPS bypass attempts. For most families it provides excellent protection.
What about Firefox? I heard it bypasses DNS filtering.
Firefox has DNS over HTTPS enabled by default which can bypass Silver Shield. The fix is simple: in Firefox go to Settings → Privacy & Security → DNS over HTTPS and turn it off. All other browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Opera) work correctly with Silver Shield by default. We have a step-by-step guide on our support page.
Do you log my browsing history?
No. Silver Shield is logless by design. We never record which sites your family visits. The device filters DNS queries without storing them.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
If your subscription lapses you have a 7-day grace period before filtering pauses. Your dashboard will show a countdown and a link to reactivate. If you reactivate within 7 days nothing changes. After 7 days filtering pauses until you renew.
Does it work with any router?
Silver Shield works with any router that lets you set a custom DNS server — which is the vast majority of home routers including TP-Link, Asus, Netgear, Linksys, and most ISP-provided routers. Our setup guide includes step-by-step instructions for the most common routers.
